Since 27th of January 2012, EPIK Germany e.V. has been accepted as a charitable society for tax purposes under the German law. We have received a letter from the Tax Authorities in Berlin that our charter fulfills the conditions of a charity. Thus, we are authorized to issue official receipts to our donors for claiming tax benefit on the donations to EPIK Germany e.V.

We have been alloted the following Tax-identification-number in Berlin: 27 / 664 / 56178 / V059.

Our donors have often asked us about the administrative costs involved in running EPIK as an institution. Presently, all of our office-bearers and supporters work as volunteers and, therefore, we do not have any major administrative costs, except postage related costs. As the vision unfolds, we would need to recruit people in India to carry out the needed jobs. We hope to have more details on our admin costs by the end of 2012.

A positive news: Since 4th of November, 2011, we are a registered society under the German law. We are registered in the "Vereinsregister" of the district court of Charlottenberg in Berlin as EPIK Germany e.V. under the number VR30980 B. The society will be represented by a board comprising of a Chairperson (Dayanand Arora), a Secretary (Vasanti Vasu) and a further board member (Suman Rewari). Two of the board members can collectively represent the society in all legal and non-legal matters.

The search for a suitable piece of land has started. Our aim is to acquire land in the federal state of Himachal Pradesh or Uttraanchal. A short listing has to be completed by the end of January 2012. Two board members of the society will be travelling to India in February 2012 for a visit to the short-listed lands and negotiate the deal. Ideas regarding this subject are most welcome!!

On the 27th of September 2011, we met in Berlin and agreed on the 'Memorandum of Association' for creating a charitable society under the German Law. Eight persons became the first signatories to the memorandum. We will soon publish the profile of signatories and the memorandum of association for the reader.
